Goddess and Earth Based Spirituality

In the beginning was the Mother. The Great Goddess was recognised by the earliest communities of humans and, whilst we have no words left to us to define Her significance to these early people, meaning is nonetheless discernable. The earliest iconography was of abundant female forms; pendulous breasts and heavy bellies. This often stylistic art speaks strongly of a reverence for the fertility of women, but not only this. The ancient Goddess was closely associated with her totemic creatures, bird, frog, bee, fish and bear among them, as well as the landscape of Earth. She was visioned in river and ocean, mountain and cave, and place names and ancient sites of ritual confirm this, from our earliest past to more contemporary culture.

Goddess and Earth-based spirituality acknowledges the sacredness of cycles; seasonal, lunar and personal, and the intimate interconnectedness of these, as well as the perpetual cycle of birth, growth, maturity, decline, death and renewal. To be an adherent to this path, one embraces self-responsibility and an awareness of the organic, dynamic nature of our ‘inner’ world, which is reflected in the ‘outer’ world, and in the glory of the Earth/Cosmos creation.

As a woman, to walk with the Sacred Feminine is to answer a longing deep in our bones, to still a restlessness that has no apparent cause. It is our right to wholeness, beauty, power and magic. To awaken the deep wisdom within is to grant light and freedom to our Core Feminine Truth, the most potent beauty of who we really are, all under the grace of Her mutable, yet eternal, presence.
